CURRENT EXECUTIVES

Suman Suri, P.Eng.
Chair

Suman is an accomplished Professional Engineer, currently excelling as the Technical Service Team Lead at New Flyer Industries. Originally from India, she has been making significant strides in Canada since 2016.

In addition to her stellar professional accomplishments, Suman is deeply committed to community service. As the President of the India chapter, she has demonstrated unwavering passion and dedication over the past five years, positively impacting numerous lives.

Moreover,  Suman takes immense pride in being a devoted mother to two wonderful children. During her downtime from her professional endeavors, Suman enjoys sharpening her skills on the badminton court. She also maintains an active involvement with the Manitoba Chess Associations, showcasing her diverse interests and commitment to excellence beyond her professional domain.

Preet Dhingra, P.Eng
Vice Chair

Preet Dhingra graduated with a B. Tech Degree in Electrical Engineering from Punjab Technical University. She is currently working as an Electrical Engineering Technology Instructor at Red River College. She has been teaching at RRC since 2012. Preet worked with SNC Lavalin Inc. for 8 years where she got an opportunity to work on Winnipeg International Airport project besides other projects related to the Mining, Hydro, etc. Prior to that she worked at Manitoba Hydro for a year gaining valuable experience early on in her career.
She is an active IEEE member and serves as an IEEE student councillor at Red River college. Preet is currently serving as the Vice Chair of the India Members Chapter. She also served the chapter as a Councillor for two years.

Avishek Ghosh,E.I.T, M.Sc
​Secretary

Avishek Ghosh has a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Manitoba and Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from University of Glasgow, UK. He worked as a Project Engineer in India from 2012 to 2016.​
Avishek is currently working as a Research Assistant at the Renewable-energy Interface and Grid Automation (RIGA) laboratory at the University of Manitoba. His current research interests include Wide-bandgap semiconductor device characterization, design and optimization methods of Electric Vehicle charging technologies.

Harmeet Gill, PMP
Treasurer

Harmeet Gill, a Project Management Professional (PMP) certified project manager, holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics from Panjab University (2005-2009). With 14 years of experience in IT, Radio Technology, and Telecom industries across India, Africa, and Canada, he brings a wealth of expertise. Currently he is registered as an EIT with EGM and currently working as Project Manager-IT with the City of Winnipeg since 2023. He joined the chapter because he is passionate about socialism and volunteering. Also, He would like to help newcomers in terms of career development in engineering practice.

Meet Thakar
Councillor

Meet Thakar holds an undergraduate degree in Mechatronics Engineering with a specialization in Robotics and Automation. He has extensive experience in the mechatronics and control systems industry, with particular expertise in robotics and machine learning.

Currently, Meet is working as a Control Systems Developer at Price Industries since 2021 and also serves as an Engineer in Residence at École Templeton in Winnipeg.

In his leisure time, Meet enjoys contributing to open-source projects on platforms such as LeetCode, GitHub, and Code Triage. He is also in the process of joining Scouts Canada as a volunteer Scout Trooper.

Ekamdeep Singh
Councillor

Ekam is a motivated Project Engineer, currently working at Gerdau, Manitoba. In 2021, he earned a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree from the prestigious University of Manitoba.
With a keen interest in project management, Ekam is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and is actively working towards obtaining his Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) certification.
Beyond his passion for engineering, Ekam is an avid Formula 1 fan, where he follows the latest developments in the sport. In his free time, he enjoys keeping up with the latest races and drivers.

Inderjit Singh
Councillor

Inderjit Singh has diverse work experience of working in manufacturing, design and research environment. Currently, he is working as Manufacturing Engineer at bus manufacturing company, Motor Coach Industries. Previously, he also worked as Mechanical Designer at Tactile Robotics and Research Assistant at University of Manitoba. He has obtained Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Manitoba in 2021.
Apart from profession, Inderjit love to do sports and volunteering. He is a good volleyball player.

Vaishali Akbari
Councillor

Vaishali Akbari has Bachelor Degree and Diploma in Electrical Engineering from India. Currently, she is enrolled in CAD Technician course in Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology. Vaishali is an Engineer-in-training in Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba since 2022. She has an entry level working experience in the designing, sales and purchase area. Nowadays, she is looking for the opportunity to work in an Engineering field.
Apart from this, Vaishali likes to do cycling, dancing and creative things.

Ganpat S. Lodha, PhD, P. Geo, FGC
Advisor

Ganpat S. Lodha had worked for 11 years in Geological Survey of India after graduating with Master’s degree in Geophysics from Banaras Hindu University. He subsequently came to Canada on a commonwealth scholarship and obtained a Ph. D degree in exploration geophysics. He was then employed for 12 years with mineral/oil exploration companies based in Calgary, Alberta. He moved to Manitoba in 1989 to take up a job with Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. involving research related to safe storage/disposal of high-level nuclear waste.

Ganpat retired from active employment in 2004 and has been volunteering on various committees of Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM). In his volunteer position he represented EGM on Geoscientists Canada board during 2013-2018. He was also a board member of EGEF during 2006-2021 and responsible for setting up bursary fund for students in IEEQ program. Ganpat has received Outstanding Service and Honorary Life Membership awards from EGM. He is one of the founder members of India Chapter within EGM.

Vaibhav Banthia, P.Eng., CIM
​Advisor

After graduating from Pune University in 1997, Vaibhav spent 2 years working with non-profit organizations in developing low cost housing in Chhattisgarh, India. Vaibhav moved to Canada in 1999 to pursue his post-graduate studies and after completing his M.Sc. in 2003 from University of Manitoba, he decided to make Winnipeg home. Vaibhav became a professional member of Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba in 2004 and worked with Wardrop Engineering/Tetra Tech for 14 years. During that tenure, he was involved in some of the most iconic projects in Winnipeg, including the Provencher Bridges, Fort Garry Bridges, Disraeli Bridges, and Osborne Street Bridge. In 2016, Vaibhav joined the City of Winnipeg’s Public Works Department as a Bridge Projects Engineer in its Engineering Division.
He served on Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba’s Academic Review Committee for four years. Through International Centre, he continues to mentor internationally educated immigrant professionals to renew their professional status in Canada. Vaibhav also served as the Chair of CSCE Manitoba section and as Speaker’s Bureau Coordinator for Association of Consulting Engineering Companies of Manitoba (ACEC-MB).
Vaibhav is one of the founding members of India Chapter and served as Vice-President (Communications) in its inaugural year. Subsequently, he completed a two year term as the President (Chair) of the Chapter.
Vaibhav is a devoted husband, a loving father and is passionate about cricket and table tennis.
